The Middflow Project · Lived experiences
Heavy menstrual bleeding. Severe iron depletion. A fibroid diagnosis that came late.
Amahle’s experience brings attention to a part of menstrual health that can be difficult to explain, easy to minimise and important to investigate.
Her experience included heavy menstrual bleeding and severe iron depletion. She was diagnosed with fibroids late.
Heavy menstrual bleeding should not automatically be dismissed as something a person simply has to endure. It is a health experience that deserves attention and appropriate assessment.
Amahle’s story is a reminder that menstrual health conversations must make room for more than the availability of pads and tampons. People also need the language, information and opportunity to raise concerns about what they are experiencing.
What Amahle’s experience asks us to consider
Menstrual health education should help people recognise when a menstrual experience deserves attention and how to seek appropriate health support. Product access and health information are connected, but they are not interchangeable.
Help make practical support possible
The Middflow Project is raising R30,000 to provide 50 women with menstrual products and personal-care essentials for five months.
R120 is the average monthly support allocation per woman. It is an average, not a fixed amount for every individual. Allocations may vary according to need.
Every contribution helps move the appeal forward. You can also share it with someone who may be able to help.
